Whether you're a new or experienced writer, we can all use support when it comes to navigating the challenges of the creative writing industry. Lauren assists with writing-related strategic problem-solving, career transitions, writing community building, publishing path decisions, creative blocks, writing project development, short-form writing coaching, novel/memoir writing coaching, and all levels of editing. 

    • Book development

    • Editing for poetry, short fiction/nonfiction, novels, memoirs, etc.)

    • Literary journal publication (editorial guidance, research, strategy, and submissions)

    • Publishing industry guidance (research, materials polishing, and querying agents) 

    • Workshops and generative support (group and individual writing sessions to help you write new poems, short fiction/nonfiction, and first/new pages for novels, memoirs, etc.)

    • Review of up to 10 pages of creative writing, ideas for review, background on the challenges you need help with, etc. 

    • A one-hour meeting on Zoom (or in person in Austin)

    • Meeting follow-up with key recommendations, top three suggested next steps, and links to relevant resources

    • $125 for 1 one-hour/meeting

    • $325 for a package of 3 hours/meetings (no expiration, at your pace)

    • $550 for a package of 5 hours/meetings (no expiration, at your pace)

The Published Poet

Poetry editorial feedback and help with submitting your poems for publication

Whether you're brand new to poetry or have been writing it for years, this is for those who could use support for the submissions and publishing process. Most poetry career paths include the pursuit of publication in reputable literary journals and magazines. The submission process is often tedious and overwhelming, with many poets dreading the effort it takes to get their work out into the world. With this package, Lauren takes care of the business side of things so you can focus on creating the poems. 

    • Infrastructure: Tracking spreadsheet, Submittable, Duotrope, etc. accounts, dedicated submissions email account, cover letter, etc. 

    • Recommendations for strategy, research, and selections for publications that best fit your goals and style

    • Your first (or next) 25 submissions to the publications that fit your goals, in the timeframe you prefer (ex. this can be spread out over 3-6 months if you want to wait to hear from higher priority publications before submitting the same poems to the next tier down)

    Investment:

    $350

    • Up to three rounds of editing support (written comments/edit suggestions) for 10 poems (max 25 pages if you write long poems)

    • Up to three one-hour Zoom meetings to discuss edit suggestions and answer questions

    • Written feedback includes celebration of strengths and gentle suggestions for where the poems could be further strengthened to increase publication acceptance chances

Whether you’re a new writer, you’ve been writing for years, or you have been intimidated about starting your creative writing journey, the book publishing side of getting your story out to readers is often daunting. The publishing industry is notorious for its money-making focus, inaccessibility, and nearly impossible odds. But that doesn’t mean your story can’t be shared. 

As an author with a traditionally published poetry book, a self-published collaborative book, and two novels under her belt, Lauren has learned many lessons over the years on what it takes to turn our stories into books. Her expertise on which publishing options are the best for your goals will help you get to your end result faster and with less pain than navigating it on your own.

Agent research, query letters, outreach, and tracking

Turn the daunting process of seeking agent representation into a team effort - you don’t need to do it alone! Lauren is experienced with the agent query process and has a wealth of industry knowledge through her connections with The Novelry, The Writers’ League of Texas, and more. She can take on the tedious task of research, provide query strategy and timing recommendations, deliver editorial support for your query letter, synopsis, etc., and even cover the outreach and tracking if you’d rather focus on your writing. Lauren would love to support your book’s journey to publication.
